NC State

Located between the State Fairgrounds and the capitol, NC State is home to over 30,000 students. As the largest university in the state, it offers an abundance of opportunities for you. At NC State, the Teaching Fellows program complements a rigorous academic program with excellent opportunities for campus leadership. Social events and cultural activities are just what you would expect in a large metropolitan area - plentiful and varied. We expect Fellows to broaden their knowledge of the world through exposure to everything from folk culture to fine art. As part of our conceptual framework (LEAD & SERVE), fellows receive outstanding preparation through pedagogy, leadership, service, diversity, field experience and application, and character education.

Excellent programs prepare students for licensure and students can opt for an ESL add-on to their primary license. Programs include:
  • Agriculture (7-12)
  • Business and Marketing (7-12)
  • Elementary, Science or Math Concentration (K-6)
  • English (9-12)
  • French (K-12)
  • Mathematics (9-12)
  • Middle Grades, Language Arts and Social Studies (6-9)
  • Middle Grades, Math/Science Dual concentration (6-9)
  • Middle Grades, Math concentration (6-9)
  • Middle Grades, Science (6-9)
  • Science Education (9-12, biology, chemistry, earth science or physics concentration)
  • Social Studies (9-12, history, political science or sociology concentration)
  • Spanish (K-12)
  • Technology (7-12)
Fellows are guaranteed on-campus housing for all four years of their schooling. As first year students, Fellows are housed together in a premium residence hall with air-conditioning, cable, and internet access in every room.

A strong Big and Little Sibling program provides first year students with friends they can count on from the first day. Frequent contact among “sibs” fosters a smooth transition to college life. Freshmen also have a required retreat. There, the fellows bond with their classmates while learning more about NC State and what it means to be a teacher.

Fellows are immersed in the finest technology that a university can offer. Technology is built into the program to enhance the preparation our students receive. In addition, travel opportunities are available ranging from local destinations to national and even international travel.

To round out the curriculum, the director works closely with Teaching Fellows' officers and committee chairs to structure a total campus experience that enriches the overall program. As they plan activities for their peers, members of the student Executive Council form an impressive management team and gain significant leadership experience.

Come to NC State for the challenge and variety that a large research university offers, with the added attraction of a student family that supports each Teaching Fellow in discovering and nurturing individual strengths.
