North Carolina Central University
North Carolina Teaching Fellows who choose to attend North Carolina Central University (NCCU) will be a part of a proud tradition of Teacher Education. NCCU has a long history of training teachers who provide quality instruction to all students in public schools across the state and nation. The NCCU Teaching Fellows Program is uniquely designed to facilitate your growth as an educator in the state of North Carolina. With nearly 9,000 students enrolled, the historically black university is diverse. International studies and exchange programs attract students from more than 12 countries, including Liberia, India, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Nepal, China, the Czech Republic, Nigeria, South Korea, Russia, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and South Africa.
The School of Education, reflecting the multicultural nature of our society, is open to undergraduate and graduate students regardless of race, gender, age, religion or special needs. Moreover, our programs are distinguished by the partnerships that we have crafted with local public schools, community colleges and the private sector.
The Teacher Education Program (TEP) provides education majors with course work and field experiences leading to initial licensure in the state of North Carolina. It provides pre-service teachers opportunities to acquire content knowledge, pedagogical skills, and dispositions needed to succeed as highly effective professional. The NCCU TEP supersedes all standards of a quality program put forth by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Additionally, NCCU Teaching Fellows’ participate in creative learning activities that broaden academic learning and foster professional growth in school partnerships. Teaching Fellows also have the opportunity and are strongly encouraged to participate in professional associations. NC Teaching Fellows from NCCU have traveled aboard (Belize, Central America; Kenya, East Africa and Ghana, West Africa) and are trained as “educators for diverse cultural contexts”. Incentives offered by the NCCU Teaching Fellows Program include, but are not limited to providing additional monies for tuition and fees, book vouchers, laptops, study abroad experiences as well as state, local and national conference attendance.
Students and Alumnus have a love and commitment to NCCU that is like no other. At NCCU, you are apart of the "Eagle Family"; you are more than a number and we will take care of you.
