Elon UniversityElon University offers a Teaching Fellows program available at a private, co-educational institution. The program involves extensive, required travel experiences at home and abroad for academic credit. Fellows study for a full semester in London or San Jose, Costa Rica and do an internship in a British/Costa Rican school. (Foreign Language majors substitute a semester of study in a country speaking the language of their major course of study.) A history study course for freshman Teaching Fellows includes a two-week tour of sites in eastern America ranging from Williamsburg to Boston. A leadership seminar in Washington, DC is provided for Fellows during the winter term of the junior year. The Fellows program also includes field trips to exemplary North Carolina schools, a lecture/seminar series and many receptions, picnics, and dinners. Fellows develop strong mentor relationships with their academic advisors and during the freshman year take part in Elon 101, a special semester-long orientation to college life. Two semesters of public school tutoring are required of Elon University Teaching Fellows. Note: At Elon University, the $ 6500 per year scholarship/loan is matched by a $6500 grant from Elon University (which includes the NC Legislative Tuition Grant), resulting in a $13,000.00 scholarship. Airfare to Costa Rica or London (or other countries for foreign language majors) is provided by the program. Scholarships that students may have from external sources may be applied to the balance. The cap is 25 Fellows per entering cohort. To learn more please visit Elon's Teaching Fellows Website at: www.elon.edu/elonnctf/. |
