Where Do I Begin? Assisting Students with Challenges

Workshop Number: 11

Presenter:
Marilynn Chapman, TF Alumna

Description:

Two of the biggest challenges faced by new teachers are classroom management and knowing how to identify and assist students suspected of having a disability. Creativity and collaboration are the two ingredients necessary to make your year "sweet". When support staff and teachers work as a team and use creativity, they are often able to combat social/behavioral problems and find support for students who struggle academically due to cognitive challenges. You will gain insight on basic procedures for identifying and referring students to the student assistance team and exceptional children's program. Participants will learn about resources to help students with disabilities. Handouts will be provided.
