(Almost) Everything a HS English Teacher Should Know
Workshop Number: 22 Presenter: Meredith B. Howell, TF Alumna Description: Surprise, you’re now an English teacher! I know—it may sound scary, but this workshop will provide you with ideas, current practices, and adaptable lessons for you to use in your own HS English classroom. The workshop will include information on ideas for teaching grammar, vocabulary, literary terms, writing, reading, viewing skills, and annotating texts. It will also provide you with information on what to expect in the first days of class, creating syllabuses, setting the tone in the classroom, using daybooks, and mastering grading. Teaching HS English will be modeled, not just presented. Numerous resources will be given to each participant so that he/she can adapt strategies, lesson plans, and ideas to fit his/her needs. Also, participants can join a follow-up discussion/idea group via website for continued support throughout the upcoming years.
